Capacity

Goldrush Ballooning Pty. Ltd. operates 6 hot air balloons. Although our existing fleet has a combined capacity of at least 42 passengers in standard atmospheric conditions, its capacity varies according to

     • the ambient temperature
     • height above sea level
     • each balloon's total weight including pilot and passengers, and
     • each balloon's age in terms of hours flown.

Our largest balloon, registration VH-HOW, carries 16 passengers in 4 separate compartments, and holds 315,000 cubic feet of air. Impossible to ignore when flying, it is a light-hearted caricature of a koala, ears and all.

Our flagship balloon in Bendigo, registration VH-EQX, is one of the newest and prettiest balloons in Australia, holds 260,000 cubic feet of cold air, and can carry 12 passengers.

Sponsored by AAPT, the company's second-largest balloon, registration VH-PHN, has an envelope volume of 180,000 cubic feet, and carries 8-9 passengers in 2 separate compartments.

Each of our next largest balloons, registration VH-ODY and VH-RAB respectively, holds 120,000 cubic feet of air, and is licensed and insured to carry 6 passengers.

The sixth balloon, registration VH-HUY, is smaller but useful for specialised charter work and training. All are well-maintained balloons which are able to operate at full capacity without having to make any concession to age.

Our capacity to operate in any given place is also governed by what bookings we have elsewhere. With bases in Bendigo and Adelaide, we constantly move our balloons backwards and forwards between Victoria and South Australia according to need. If you wish to make a group booking for more than 6, please give us as much notice as possible to give yourself the best chance of getting the date you want.
